AMAZING GRACE.
Grace knew her priorities; she set her goals and had a clear target in her life.
"When I grow up, I want to be a doctor like Ben Carson. Mummy, mummy, look at me, I want to be a doctor!" She always shouted with so much enthusiasm.
They say confession is possession. She grew up to become a lovely young lady indeed, her grades were straight A's, her leadership qualities were on point. She was also the chair of the debating club. Grace was the apple of her father’s eye and the pride of her mother. What could hinder her future success? Everyone knew she was to be the president or the governor some day. Her father bought her a car once she got to eighteen because of good behavior. All she needed to succeed was a good college education to achieve her doctor dream.
A year in Eastside University was enough to spoil Grace’s morals completely. Though she was firm in her faith, the peer influence was unbearable. She managed to keep her grades up during the first semester, second and into her second year but she developed a bad attitude henceforth. All she could do was chat with her friends twenty four seven and eat her way into the weekend. The worst came to the worst when she tasted her first beer…
It was so fun to finally have friends all around her at the club. She did things that no other teenager could do. She was once caught by the police drunk in the night and somehow managed to be set free. Was it seduction or just her charm she had mastered? She had been with so many guys from the club who eventually gave her a nickname that she was not at all pleased with. All said and done, she got pregnant even before she knew it and swore to flush it out…
Her parents were back at home still having the same Grace they sent to college in mind. The angelic good behaved girl who loved herself as much as she loved others. They had high expectations of their baby girl and always hoped to see her again over the holidays. But somehow Grace had an excuse or two not to go home for the holidays. Her parents really missed her.
Grace did the abortion locally at a friend’s place but she could not stop bleeding. She had no choice but to go to the hospital or would be risking her life. She pleaded with the nice doctor to keep the operation a secret and not call her parents. She felt terrible that she lost her virginity at a young age and to make it worse, she never knew the person she lost her virginity to. She went through the operation the whole night.
She was discharged a week later but still felt the excruciating pain she had during the operation. Her friends went through their usual cycle of late night partying day in day out to the extent that they had no time to see Grace. Grace was all alone in her hostel and since she was afraid of her parents knowing she was sick, she pretended to be fine every time they called her. As soon as she heard her parents were coming to visit her, she panicked.
She tried all she could to hide the evidence of the operation but she ended up hurting herself by squeezing the wound on her belly. Her parents arrived early and got to her hostel as quickly as they could eager to see their beautiful daughter.
Grace assumed her pain and gave her parents the warm welcome that they expected. From the look on their eyes, Grace knew that they had missed her and they loved her very much. They went through the trouble of travelling all the way from home to her hostel just to see her. That was when she realized what good parents she had. They spent the whole day together talking about how they lived at home and how she was doing in school. After all was said and done, they had to bid Grace Goodbye.
Grace was lucky enough that her parents did not notice that she had previously undergone an operation that almost caused her life. She continued with her studies in school and laid low on drinking for some time. She realized that its consequences were dire and she did not want to go through one of those painful operations again. Grace prayed to God from time to time and always prayed that she wouldn’t be tempted to spoil her life with worldly pleasures. She was not sure if her prayers would be answered, all she did was wait. However, she was quite impatient.
Grace needed her weekly allowance and it seemed that her parents of late had been delaying her allowance. She did not ask why because she found out that father had lost his job. He was her only hope of survival in the university and once she was told that her father had no money, she could not handle the trauma.
Grace had no source of income and she decided that she couldn’t go on like that forever. She had to do something about it. Grace saw how other girls dressed and started copying them. She saw how those girls got attention from men and received a lot of money from them. Since she had no friends, she was never cautioned by anybody on the dangers of dressing in that way. She picked the habit up like she invented it.
Boys started looking at Grace in the wrong way. The fact that she had her target set was the only reason she dressed half bare. She hated the way she dressed. She walked around the school from lecture to lecture whilst she was followed by whichever boy or man she wished until she met Mr. O’Neal…
O’Neal was a man doing Masters in Civil Engineering and had a charm that was envied by many. He too was followed by many girls and maidens in the university because he was rich, successful, and smart. Nobody knew he had a wife and four children or that he was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and was currently on antiretrovirals. Still, no one ever knew that O’Neal was part of a private practice that no one in the university knew about. Many said that this private practice was the reason for his wealth and luxury but O’Neal decided to keep it a secret.
Grace and Mr. O’Neal got to know each other quickly and started spending a lot of time together. O’Neal bought Grace very nice clothes and lots of expensive jewelry just to please her. Grace loved his company and did not want to leave him at all. She was sure that she wouldn’t get married to him because he was quite old and already had a family of his own which she was not even embarrassed about.
The time came when all that Mr. O’Neal did for Grace was becoming too much for her that she wanted to do something for Mr. O’Neal. They booked a hotel room one night and spent the night together after O’Neal lied to his wife and family that he had gone for an official business trip. Grace was not really happy in the morning after she realized she had lost her virginity the previous night to a man she did not even love. She would never forgive herself. Instead, she got hold of herself and decided that she was going to party the whole night with her friends just to take a load off. However O’Neal was not satisfied. That morning he decided to give it to her straight…
“Grace my dear, what I have given you is just a taste of what you ought to have. You yourself know that you deserve the best and I am willing to guide you to achieve that. What I only need...
