Today in the modern world through telecommunication technology, man is certain to send and receive data. This can be through e-mail, video or audio by click of a button. However, does man really know how safe are his data by use of the internet? Cybercrime is the involvement in illegal activities using a computer as a primary source to undertake a theft act on the internet CITATION Uga14 \l 2057 (Ugander & Reddy, 2014). The internet is one of the fastest global growing platforms that man has adapted to for easy communication unlike before where it didn’t exist. As this globalization trend continues, cybercrimes keep emerging.
Cybercrime is divided into three broad sets that is; attacks on computer software and hardware, abuse and financial crimes. Attack on computer hardware is popular and happens each day. This is where an individual who terms to be an expert in computer science or computer engineering uses malwares, botnets and network intrusion to access information illegally or manipulating it. The other set of cybercrime involves finance and corruption where popular bank online services are hacked (Shackelford, 2014). An individual penetrates online financial services and in the end online fraud occurs. Abuse is a cybercrime that is increasing gaining popularity in terms of sexual exploitation. The nude pictures posted online and the illegal websites that enable children to access pornographic contents CITATION INT15 \l 2057 (INTERPOL, 2015).
There are many paradigms that can describe illegal cyber activities done on the internet that best suite understanding of cybercrime. First, the organized criminal groups in the cyberspace that are involved in cybercrimes. These are individuals with high degree of internet use to manipulate systems. For instance, the digital technology has highly empowered people like never before. Therefore, it is apparent many individuals have the ability to manipulate systems and indulge in cybercrime (Broadhurst, et. al., 2014). Individuals in the modern error use the internet to communicate the prohibited contents that are outlawed since they are deemed offensive. Such illegal contents can be that of Jihadist propaganda and incitement messages in the cyber space.
Secondly, the state-sponsored cybercrimes where governments apparently participate in cyber illegal crimes. An individual can envisage a series of state and private interaction that can be a monopoly criminal activity. This is where a person finds formal collaboration with the state authorities for their favour and gain. For instance, a state will turn a ‘‘blind eye’’ to a cybercrime in question and its inability to control illegal private cybercrimes (Stohl, 2014). A state can collaborate to a high ranked individual of respected global brand through internet to gain favour in the export of their products or importation of products without paying tax. This will involve the manipulation of online company systems to strike the illegal deal.
In conclusion, the world economy as it keeps growing emergency of new cybercrimes will cost it billions of dollars through frauds or selling of illegal contents that are abuse in internet. Currently, we are s...
