Catholicism has defined my life since childhood. Catholic education implies the following to me apart from knowledge acquisition. First, it has given me an incarnational world perception that recognizes that God exists and acts in our lives. I acknowledge that there are no coincidences in life. Everything is tailor-made to manifest God’s abundant grace. The incarnational view has spared me many worries since I request divine intervention through prayer in case of tribulations. In addition, I thank God for whatever successes in life. Secondly, it has provided me with a renewed understanding of paschal mystery related to the life and mission of Jesus Christ on earth (Schuttloffel, 2018). I lead a fulfilling life since I appreciate that earthly sufferings or dissatisfactions are temporary, and Christ’s persecution and resurrection is a lesson that goodness prevails. I approach life challenges with humility as a catholic since Christ underwent them. I focus more on doing what is right instead of pleasing humanity.
Thirdly, Catholic education has meant sustaining relationships and living harmoniously with the community. The noble truths like love, humility, and self-control articulated in Galatians 5 have boosted my relationships. I recognize that true Catholicism is expressed when we help others, feed the hungry, and comfort the bereaved instead of expecting favors (Grace & O’Keefe, 2017). That is how relations with friends and community are nurtured. Moreover, Scripture teaches us to be productive community members instead of elevating the individual. Vices like selfishness, corruption, and theft thrive when we overemphasize the individual. Fourthly, it has meant that the pursuit of personal success is a spiritual objective. God expects his children to be industrious in their undertakings (Schuttloffel, 2018). Underperformance exacerbators like laziness and procrastination are ungodly. Personal excellence doesn’t imply that Christians should bask in their academic credential or material accumulation. It means you must have some providence to lead others to Christ.
