Instructions:
2 essays (Howard College Application Essay) Applying for Theatre Arts Hi, my son is intended in Howard University Essay #01(1.5 pages) The essay demonstrates your ability to write clearly and concisely on a selected topic and helps you distinguish yourself in your own voice. What do you want the readers of your application to know about you apart from courses, grades, and test scores? Choose the option that best helps you answer that question and write an essay, using the prompt to inspire and structure your response. Use the full range if you need it, but don't feel obligated to do so. (The application won't accept a response shorter than 250 words.) Prompt Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story. Revamp and spruce up my draft One challenging experience that I dealt with in life was finding something that makes me happy. When I was younger, my friends and I would get together during recess and act out scenes. I didn't know it was called acting back then; I called it "pretend" and it kept me occupied but, to my chagrin, it wasn't a hobby my mother enjoyed. She would rather I play football or run track to fit with her idea of a talented young boy. I knew sports were an integral part of our family tradition, so I kept at it to make her happy, but I didn't feel like myself. As I grew older, I discovered an aesthetic appreciation of the performing arts. The theatre community is my "safe place", not the field surrounded by athletes my mother wanted for me. The stage is where I feel a sense of freedom; it's where I escape. Although my mother's intentions were pure in wanting me to become a great athlete, I had to chase the natural gift my heart pulled me toward, and I am so thankful she can support me with this decision. My mother and my grandparents raised me as best as they could with limited finances and I never felt the pain of their struggles until I got old enough to realize how hard they worked to feed our family. My mother raising me as a single mother with limited finances was difficult, but we survived. I can't allow the financial hardship of attending my dream school to become my mother's responsibility. I have a younger sister and brother that need her focus and I, as an older brother, have to be their example of pushing through difficult times to reach your dreams! Attending Howard University, I will go the extra mile to become better than great! I'm going to make my family proud with your help! Thank you in advance! Prompt for Essay #02 The year is 2030, and you have been invited to be the keynote speaker at an event of your choice. If you were to give this very important speech, what would it be about? You may reflect on a passion of yours, an important personal/global issue, or something that piques your interest; please feel free to be as creative as you'd like. (250 words maximum) source..
