Advantages of magnetic storage and Disadvantages of magnetic storage
Magnetic storage are very fast and easy to access data that is stored in them. In this nature, one is able to retrieve any information that is stored in the media. Through this, many of the magnetic media storages are manufactured at speed of 1000kb/s so as to increase the effectiveness of accessing data. In some other magnetic media such as a hard disk, data can be achieved, read and retrieved from any section of the media. In such a case, the partitioned media can display its own digital data stored at a specific section of the hard disk. In so doing, the media thus guarantees an individual a large space for storage of data (Parsons, 2014).
On the other hand, stored data in the media can be easily be altered by magnetic fields and other mechanical factors such as drastic dropping of the storage devices on hard grounds as well as dust particles penetrating into the storage sections. The rate at which data can be lost increases then due to the gradual charge lose after a given period of time.
In addition, some of these devices such as hard disks may lead to the computer stopping some of its functions. This is due to the interconnection of the hard disks together with the computer Again, when the computer crashes regularly over time, this may lead to the destruction of the hard disks leading to data loss.
Advantages and disadvantages of optical storage
An optical storage is a type of media used to keep data through making marks inform of patterns which will be re-read through the use of light assistance material. The optical storage media are non-violate which are very cheap in manufacturing per bit of storage giving a large storage density. They thus serve ideal storage media for reading huge sequential data such as music. In addition, they are easy and light to handle, highly reliable compared to magnetic tapes as well as easy to store.
On the other hand, most optical storage are not easy to read and write hence not easy to erase the data to replace with another set. In comparing the speed of access, they become slower compared to those of magnetic disks thus they need a more advanced mechanisms so as to be read.
Advantages and disadvantages of solid state storage
Solid state storage media have high speeds of accessing and writing data compared to other media such as the hard disks. They thus become more reliable, durable with less or no noise at all during the data storage. They are faster to start, small in size and thus do not need any specialized form of cooling.
However, the price of obtaining solid state storage per gigabyte is huge compare to that of a hard disk. Some thus may cause the battery levels of laptops to drastically drop especially when idle due to the more power use (Null & Lobur, 2015). The storage media are hence made vulnerable to power loss due to the portable ability just like the flash disks.
Microprocessor and its relationship software
A microprocessor is a small computer processor that is brings all the function of computer’s central processing unit to a unit integrated circuit. It is a microprocessor that does all the logic functions and arithmetic’s such as addition of numbers for the computer.
All the system software of the computer highly relies on the microprocessor so as they can get first instructions as well as enable the software do further functions of processing information (Belden & In Hunt, 2014).
Types of computer memory
A computer has two main type of memories namely, primary and secondary memories. The primary memory is composed the RAM that is volatile in nature and located at the CPU. On the other hand, secondary memory is non-volatile in nature such as the hard disk and is used to hold data (store data).
Differences between a computer program, system software, operating system, and application software giving examples of each type
A computer program is a set of command and instruction that directs a computer on what it is supposed to do while a system software is computer software that has been modified so as to give a platform for operating and controlling the computer hardware when running application software. A good example is the Google chrome used in a computer to view web pages and sites.
On the other hand, an operating system is a computer software that manages computer’s process, memory and its software and hardware system as application software is a collection of computer programs created to allow the user of the computer to do some coordinated tasks and functions (Shelly, Vermaat, Quasney, Sebok, & Freund, 2011).
