Social change
Social change occurs when there is a modification of the culture and behavior which is usually expressed through the law m customs, modes ,beliefs and institutions. Social change is therefore someone thing that happens all the time but usually not planned. It is the alteration of the social order of the society. Social changes is also referred to as the notion of social cultural evolution where it could shift from feudist to capitalism.
Education plays an important role in enforcing social change; it should therefore be a consideration in the system. Social change mostly takes place when people are yearning for change. This is when the existing systems fail to meet the needs of the people and the new materials suggesting better ways that could solve their need. Education can therefore bring about social change through the changing the outlook and attitude of the human beings. Education therefore influences the patterns of social relations, which eventually causes social changes.
Education brings aim is to solve the human needs. There are several types of social changes that should be considered which include civilization change where the mode of dressing , types of food ,production technology and communication systems change. There is also the cultural change where the people adopt new knowledge. The other is the change in social relationship which redefine the relationship between father and son , husband and wife and teachers and student among others.
In education, social change is an important factor because education itself plays an important role in defining and propelling this change. In communication, the students -student and teacher student way of communicating has drastically changed. Today communication is driven by technological innovation of the social media and text messaging. This mode of communication is creeping to the school education and classrooms across the globe.
For instance , slang terms and text-speak have found their way into the class room and are often sighted in the students assignments. A good example is use of BTW (by the way), IDK (i do not know) among many other have become second nature in usage by many students. This problem has become ahead ache to school teachers as they are not sure of the best way to fix this problem.
This kind of social change has been brought about by the social networks on the internet and mobile phone application which do not allow for long sentences such as tweeter among others. This has also lead to a dramatic decline in the ability of many student to write. The use of grammatical rules such as capitalization and use of punctuations is no longer there.
The practices reading education has been changing from one generation to the other. This has been attributed to the development of new knowledge and innovation. The social changes are therefore abounding to influence education practices. The rapid increasing mix of ethnicity and culture of the world through technological trends and communication is continuing to have demographic effect on many schools and could eventually completely change education.
Technology and its advancement have been viewed to support education. However, the rapid development of technological equipment has to improve communication , retrieval of information and entertainment has instead tossed many young interests and education people in a different direction. Technology continues to revolutionize both the social dynamics and how people learn about the world around them. Social media despite the many negative effect it has on young people could also be harnessed and used to empower the students.
