Introduction
The learning profile is describing the student’s individual characteristics and preferences that affect the gaining of knowledge. In other terms, a learner profile is a collection of information about a student, which demonstrates that particular student’s understanding of his or her learning as well as what he or she requires to be successful at school (Thompson, 2006). A learner profile needs to be dynamic. The reason attributed to this assertion is that a student is always undergoing rapid development. According to Education (2010), a learner profile should include the following individual preferences for each student: learning preferences, learning style, thinking style, type of intelligence, interests, and the influences based on gender, culture, and personality. Powell & Kusuma-Powell (2011) suggest that to develop a student’s learning profile, the three dimensions of learning identity, which include biological traits, cultural and societal factors, and emotional and social influences, have to be captured.
Biological traits include child’s gender, age, physical development, physical disabilities, health, motor skills, coordination, and diagnosed learning disabilities (Powell & Kusuma-Powell, 2011). Gathering this data is important because there is the need to support the children with sensory or motor disabilities to avoid their stigmatization and exclusion by their peers. Besides, knowledge of a child's biological learning traits is critical because it helps a teacher to interpret the behavior of a classroom more accurately (Powell & Kusuma-Powell, 2011). Information about a child's biological learning traits can be obtained from the Kindergarten Health Assessment Reports with parents’ consent, as some of the information can be confidential (Clemens, Doolittle & Hoyle, 2002).
