Post-Secondary Education System
Post-Secondary education system proves to be tough for secondary school dropouts. There are several reasons for the stigma on these students. First, there is the case of the age difference. The probability of post-secondary school students to be older than regular students in the system is very high, making it one of the factors affecting their learning process (San Martin & Calabrese, 2011). Psychology dictates that these students are usually not able to concentrate in class like the rest since there is the possibility of them having moral and personal obligation (Stromquist & Monkman , 2014). An example is a case where these students are parents, most of their time they will be concerned about their children's well-being than the education system hence less concentration in education (Ross-Gordon, 2011). There is also the possibility of them being slow learners because of age, hence disabling them to grasp concepts quickly than the rest. Such traits are usually accompanied by stress, behavior abnormalities, and lack of concentration.
There are different certifications offered in the education systems, but their value and importance vary in different ways. Examples are on the comparison between the GED program and Secondary-School certification structure (Clark & Martorell, 2014). Traditionally most post-secondary school dropouts had the choice of joining the GED system since its value was regarded and accepted by most employment agents but recently there has been a turn on value and education because secondary school diplomas are better and also more sufficient when it comes to the employment in industries (Rose, 2013). The GED structure is based on the satisfactory application of skills and knowledge hence creating a favorable environment for the students. Research also indicates that the GED system was one that enhanced student recognition to the employment discipline. Also, there is the provision of the system to develop and increase American literacy index rates. Since there has been a switch on the importance of these systems, the concluding factor is that there are better employment opportunities for secondary school diploma holders than the GED (Estêvão & Alvares, 2014). It is a fact that the GED system suffers greatly in the work systems since most of the students lack adequate knowledge and skills.
To determine the factors that lead to students dropping out from high schools, there was the need to refer to ancient analysis and data. First, there was an interview that involved fifty different individuals that included parents, teachers, and students (Hamilton & Mackinnon, 2013). The outcome of the survey clearly indicated that education system Stanislaus County in the U.S was affected by the following factors; family financial capabilities, academic value, and there was the lack of parental engagement on their children’s educational life cycle (Rumberger, 2013). Also, there was a study on the importance of the secondary education system. The study’s central localities were in Virginia and Maryland; these communities proved the importance of teaching since it enhances the literacy rates in the U.S economy (Barrow, Brock, & Rouse, 2013). Also, there are debates on the importance of the post-secondary diplomas attained by drop outs hence creating a lot of tension in the learning industry. Such debates have reduced the importance of the GED system in the U.S economy. Finally, there are the needs to focus on current cons of the discipline since several trends are croppi...
