The debate about information and knowledge in our leaning institutions does not end. For the individuals working in schools, we have a clear depiction of what education is from an educational setting perspective. However, the personal definition of knowledge by a teacher determines the teaching methods that they apply in school. The discourse of the school can be broken down into different groups. It is important to note that school knowledge is taught by teachers to students, while common knowledge is received through daily experiences that are self-driven.
The acquisition of knowledge is important to an individual as it is an essential tool in ensuring that they get a better life at their personal as well as collective capacity. The aspect of knowledge is known to have been applied to many settings throughout the history of humanity. Plato, a renowned philosopher, was the first to stand the main criteria for what he put as safe knowledge as compared to only being connected to one opinion about something (Bekerman & Zembylas, 2018). His successor, Aristotle, broadened the discussion by comparing knowledge and how it relates to different activities. He saw the theoretical knowledge that is connected to the reflection as well as investigations in life. Using this information, knowledge in practical settings compare to creativity (techne) and ethical as well as political (fronesis).
