Notes for a Writer
Laurie Krsizner has enumerated what according to me is a working manual for a college writer and any aspiring professional writer. As a writer, you make a lot of choices along the way which eventually play a significant role in shaping the final essay or article.
Kriszner advises that the more an individual writes, the more they become better acquainted with their personal writing process. This way the particular work becomes associated with that writer.
The writing process is also influenced by a writer's national, ethnic, cultural background, the source of knowledge, and experiences. These factors also affect how a writer interprets the works of other writers. However, a reader should not distort a writer’s word by ignoring significant details or perceiving things that do not exist in a story or essay. The main point of reading to write according to Kriszner is to formulate a tremendous response to a writer’s ideas. This is achieved by participating in the reading process, understanding the purpose of your reading. You have to mark out what you want to get out of your reading (Kriszner14).
By previewing an essay, we get a sense of the writer’s main ideas, key points, and general emphasis. To get a sense of what a writer’s work you have to think about the title, read through the first paragraph, and the last section.
Before writing, a story or an essay we first discover what interests us. Our interests help us to formulate ideas on a given topic. We then get the key ideas, set limits according to the length of the assignment regarding the number of words or pages.
Since every writer has a target audience, it is imperative that they form a relationship through their work. The writer has to understand what style to use to effectively pass the message to the audience. This could be through expressive writing, informative writing, or persuasive writing (Kriszner 30).
According to Kriszner, knowledge of a topic gives a writer an upper hand. This determines what the writer will say about a theme.
