Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy before a fetus can survive in a physical environment different from that inside the uterus. In the recent past, the subject of abortions has become one of the most controversial topics across the world. This essay will, therefore, discuss the arguments supporting and opposing abortion.
The main pro-life argument about abortion is that the unborn baby deserves to live, and it’s their right. The right involves protection against any unjustified killing (Thompson, 2007). Persons who are against abortion argue that the process is murder, just like any other killing. The fetus is assumed to be a living being from the time of conception, and therefore, should be accorded this right like any other person. Marquis (2007) argues that abortion causes infliction of pain to the fetus as well as denial of the necessary nutrients, which eventually causes its death. Since time immemorial, society has condemned the act and discourages women from doing it. Right to life is, therefore, one of the key arguments used by those against abortion.
