The infiltration of computer technology in America has influenced the functioning of the society in many aspects. With the increased need to adjust to the global changes in the human lifestyle, the computer has become a preferable tool for use by many Americans. Heiting and Wan (2014) note that with the introduction of the first computer over five decades ago, such widespread adoption of the technology has not been witnessed in America until recently. The question of overdependence on computers by Americans has continued to take root with more people adopting to the technology in their daily routines. I agree with the proposition that Americans are becoming too dependent on computers.
Trends in education reveal that computers have taken the center stage in the learning for American students. For instance, File (2013), in his research, indicates the loss of loss of spelling skills in most education environments in America is a clear indicator of the overreliance of computers in education. With the development of advanced programs for word-processing with the ability to automatically correct misspelled words; most computer users reduced their ability to recognize spelling mistakes in their writing. While it is certain that such computer programs increase the efficiency in writing, it is evident that they enforce common spelling errors when they are not applied.
The heavy usage of computers in the United States can be evidenced by the statistics revealing use of computers in the houses. Typically, individuals, old and young, encounter computers in every area of their lives. There is a computer in nearly every home, school, and office in America, an indication that individuals use computers on most occasions to appendage their daily activities. Research has been conducted, and statistics has been provided as evidence of this heavy usage.
