Introduction
A company’s management has many issues that are core and paramount to the success of the company, that it should consider to ensure that it achieves its goals which majorly towards its growth. In a company, different stakeholders play major roles in the success of the company. These stakeholders may include shareholders, employees and customers who require the services offered to the company. As postulated and evidenced by scholars and experts in the field of business management and entrepreneurship, the management team of a company needs to value and consider the different perspectives given unto them by its different stakeholders (Patil & Shyamasundar, 2017). In this academic paper, taking the position of the CEO of Facebook, I will focus on the challenges faced by the employees of the organization regarding their privacy.
Case analysis
The case regarding ‘Cambridge Analytica’ is one of the major factors that has led me, as the CEO of Facebook, to carry out intensive and extensive research regarding the privacy challenges that different stakeholders in the organization go through. In briefly outlining the case of Cambridge Analytica, in March 2018, many media outlets across the globe broke the news about how the afore-mentioned company acquired and used personal data about the users of the Facebook social media platform. The company, Cambridge Analytica, is said to have acquired this data about the users of Facebook from a student who acquired the data claiming that he was collecting it purposely for academic research purposes. The data acquired, regarding prominent politicians and even unknown users of the said social media platform was used in as campaign tools in the United States and portrayed the affected users as ‘clowns’ in leadership. President Donald Trump’s success in elections is said to have been aided by the information acquired from Cambridge Analytica. More than 87 million users of the Facebook platform were affected by this data security breach (Cataño, 2018).
As the CEO of Facebook, I identified this as a challenge to the success of the company. Many clients of Facebook have used this data security breach occurrence in adopting to use other social media platforms as communication channels (Patil & Shyamasundar, 2017). As the CEO of the organization I came up with the following solutions to the challenges faced by the organization’s clients regarding the issues faced regarding data breaches;
* Use of more authentication and authorization features that handle the challenge of data breaches effectively. In taking this action, the company will ensure that only authenticated and authorized individuals can access the data stored in the massive databases of the organization. Apart from this, data access in the organization will leave a trail that can be used to identify unauthorized and unauthenticated access. This decision will make sure that every user of Facebook social media platform is sure that his or her data is secure and cannot be accessed by unauthenticated and unauthorized individuals (Cataño, 2018).
* Secondly, in taking care of the perspectives and complaints of the numerous clients of the organization (to counter a data security breach such as the Cambridge Analytica), I formulate rules and regulations that allow only a few individuals in the organization to authorize non-employees to access data acquired from Facebook users.
