According to the “Animal Farm,” the animals as highlighted in this book were in the hope of achieving unity, truth, equality, freedom, and individuality, better quality life during the revolution. The book is a fable reflection of the events which lead to the Russia Revolution in 1917 and later to the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union. At the beginning of the revolution, these things were achieved, but at the end of the revolution, the hopes failed. In this essay, the point of focus will address why and how the experiment of communism failed on Animal Farm according to Orwell, was the failure in communism evitable, and why the noble objective such as this fail on the animal farm.
In the beginning, the Old major united the animals and championed them on independence and equality. He told the other animals that Man was the problem and the animals needed to unite so that they can reap their rewards. In his perceptive, Old Major believed that the farm was owned equally by the animals and everyone works to the best of their ability, and the reward each one received was a ration of the work. In that context, Old Major came up with seven commandments that were to ensure that the dream of equality was achieved at last (Awan & Raza, 2016)
After the death of Old Major, Snowball and Napoleon assumed power and united the animals together and drove away from Mr. Jones from the farm. Immediately after, inequality among the animals started when Napoleon started using dictatorship to rule the animals. (Orwell, 2017). Snowball and Napoleon were the only animals who were entitled to find solutions while the other animals were to work hard and bring equality and prosperity in the Animal Farm (Deniz, 2014). Napoleon went ahead and changed the seven commandments. He replaced the seven commandments into one commandment, “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others” this shifts the initial call by Old Major which stated that “All animals are equal.” This was the beginning of the crumbling of the rebellion by the animals (Orwell & Heath, 2013).
Even though Napoleon seemingly looked nicer at the beginning than Mr. Jones, he was trying to satisfy his selfish desires. Napoleon’s ideology of referring men as enemies and animals were comrades was to get a way of controlling all the animals (Orwell & Heath, 2013). Napoleon feared Snowball and hence used dogs to chase him away from the farm. So instead of using his brain, Napoleon used his nine dogs to chase away Snowball so that he could become the only head of the farm so that he could change anything he wanted to suit himself. This statement shows the violence that Napoleon applied to Snowball (Deniz, 2014).
