Literature is a wonderful world where writers use their experience of life, emotions, and thoughts to produce a masterpiece. The world around them influences an individual ability to write. In the same way, the authors writing skills are shaped by past events. Historically, most writers are highly influenced by some events that they encountered during their life. One author whose work was heavily shaped by his early life was Edgar Allan Poe. Allan lived a very depressing life because he was separated from his parents and siblings, and at some point, he had to see close relatives die around him (Halliburton, 2015). This hard and depressing life inspired him to write about his dark stories. Therefore, it is evident that these unfortunate events in his life stimulated him to write creepy and unique writings, which made him famous.
One example of a similarity between Edgar's life and his writing is in "The Cask of Amontillado," which was released in 1846. In this case, Edgar's past painful events make him develop a feeling of hatred and vengeance. This is seen in the story because he describes one character, Montresor, to be on a vengeful mission against his friend, Fortunato, for the many injuries he has caused him. This feeling of hate and vengeful makes Montresor lure Fortunato to drink so that he could revenge. Montresor then takes advantage of Fortunato intoxication and chains him to a stone and traps him there. This case proves that Poe wanted to seek vengeance on life for taking his family members. This case is also similar to Poe's life because depression had caused him to be a heavy drinker. As such, his life experience caused him to include alcoholic characters.
Edgar's heartbroken experience of losing his beloved women impacted his writings. Most of the characters in his writings were centered on a beautiful woman who signifies the three women in Edgar's life. For instance, In "Annabel Lee," he wrote about his mad love for his wife, Virginia Clem. A majority of the women characters had traits of his sensitive and fragile Virginia. The death of his loved ones also made him write stories with the theme of death. For instance, in "The Masque of the Red Death," Poe wrote about a plague that spread quickly and kills people within a short period. This related to his life since the people he loved were killed by tuberculosis.
Allan Poe's lonely life was also captured in his poems. Allan Poe's lived a lonely life as his parents died while he was young. This inspired him to write a poem that he referred to it as "Alone."
