Charles Darwin describes the Fuegians as the earliest of all inhabitants of the South American islands. Darwin’s contact with the Fuegians was as a result of his missionary encounter of returning four Fuegian slaves to their motherland. His first description of the Fuegians was based on the physical look, age, behavior code, emotional appeal towards different situations and their way of dressing. However, Darwin's racism nature comes out later in his journal on his second description of the Fuegians. He gives out different descriptive perspectives of the Fuegians where he regards himself as a Civilized man while he referred to the Fuegians as Savages. Comparing and contrasting the gap of civilization between the Fuegians and that of domestic and wild animals out shows his cruel nature (Grigg, 2009).
Mary Shelley’s description of Frankenstein is based on its outer look. Her description is based on the physic of the creature, color. In this case, she gives a monster description of the creature which completely differs with those of a normal human being (Lawless, 2009).In comparing Charles Darwin description of Fuegians to Mary Shelley's description of the Frankenstein, both have similarities in that. Both cases offer a descriptive look at what can be seen from the outside. This is in terms of skin color, figure, physic and behavior that express a certain perception of the respective authors (Grigg, 2009). In the first case, the description given to the Fuegians give an impression of an uncivilized beings living in scanty conditions. The authors, despite being human too, distinguish themselves from their subjects by acquainting them traits that are far from their nature of humanity. For instance, Charles Darwin gives a scenario of being more human while referring to the Fuegians as fewer animals. He even goes ahead to argue that there exists a wider bigger gap between beings than there is between animosities (Grigg, 2009). Similar to Mary Shelley description of beings, she recreated Frankenstein with traits far of human nature and humanity hence being termed a monster. This is evident from the unproportioned body features and an extra ordinary height (Lawless, 2017).
From a development perspective, Charles Darwin description shows a more advanced being versus a less advanced being. In this case, Darwin was a missionary who set to explore the South America islands when he first came to contact with the Fuegians. He, however, studies their behavior which is more evident from his first description but to proof a fact that he is a more advanced culture, he gives another contrasting second description. His second description shows that the Fuegians are less exposed with savage traits which set a huge difference between him and them or rather a civilized and non-civilized being. His description, however, sets the place for human evolution over ages and the gap to be covered towards behavior and cultural development.
