In the novel, “In Mildred Taylor’s Roll of thunder Hear my cry,” there are several significant themes presented in this novel. Though the novel has paid more focus on the theme of education mainly the various types of education that is the formal as well as informal. Nevertheless, informal education has been discussed in detail since it is one of the methods which have been adopted when making children understand the ethics of resistance.
According to the novel, the informal education has played an important part in linking the logan family. The family members could give informal education to their children when difficulties were experienced. There are various instances which have been shown based on informal education, also the way informal education is functioning to enhance the life of child. For example, there was a time when Cassie was taken to town by her mother, she observed the way the black people were exploited. The mother wished that her child could be able to understand the outside world. An instance of injustice was witnessed by Cassie in the way the white people were treating the blacks. Cassie could alter the ignorance by the assistance from her mother based on the way the black people were treated with no justice at all.
In this novel, the children were taught the family history by the logan family. The children were taught the significance of having a good land. The novel has explained explicitly on the way the land is shaping the citizen ship of the logan family. the land is said to have been gained from the grandfather long time ago. Their father has brought the issue to the children, this is to help them get linked to the land, they can also contribute positively to their life. Cassie was informed that he was supposed to live a life on her own and that he was not live-in place of somebody else.
In conclusion, the importance of informal education has been observed by the instances illustrated in the novel. By using the informal education, the children can develop better understanding of develop efforts in the society.
