Covid 19 Social Media Campaign
Since the onset of Covid 19, many people have died from the illness, while millions have been infected. Furthermore, the rate of infection is still escalating despite the efforts to contain the virus. The media has been at the forefront of sharing critical information on the disease and creating awareness. Therefore, this paper dwells on how social media campaign has impacted the spread of Covid 19 among the youth and elderly.
Health Inequity
Covid 19 is defined by health inequities like ageist social policies, the current social inequity and worldwide trade inequities. These triggers are relatable to all populations, however, there is a major health inequity among the elderly. The pandemic has compromised the health status and social vulnerability of the elderly in accessing healthcare, income inequality, good housing and cultural beliefs. Hence, Covid 19 is consraining the current social determinants of health by making social conditioning onn the health of the elderly.
On the other hand, the pandemic has led to youths being fired, and iven reduced working hours. This has resulted to lower wages, loss of employment, financial insecurity, food insecurity and inability to cater for expenses among the youth population. Moreover, this contributes to limited access to food and technology. Youths especially with preexisting conditions like HIV, depression and anxiety also experience poor medical adherence which instigate heightened symptoms during the pandemic (Center for Disease Control and Protection, 2021). This is because the measures enacted to deal with the youth insecurities were unavailable to the youths aged out of school based sevices.
Community Health Nursing Diagnostic Statement
The heightened risk in Covid 19 infections among youths and the elderly in America is due to minimal awareness in controlling the spread of the disease. This can be seen by the rising number of infections and mortality rates of youths and the elderly, particularly those with underlying conditions.
Primary Community and Prevention Resources
Approaches used to contain the Covid 19 pandemic entail frequent hand washing using running water and soap, sanitizing with alcohol-saturated sanitizers, adhering to social distancing policies, wearing masks when in public gatherings and places, and avoiding touching eyes, mouth, and face (Lin et al., 2020).
The US department of health and human services partnered with, local government, public health sector, health care practitioners, private sector organizations, researchers and members of the public to perform a response to the Covid 19 pandemic to protect the health ans safety of the youths and elderly.
The primary prevention resources includes availing the approved vaccinations in many locations including the private healthcare providers and clinics. Moreover, local healthcare providers are giving sampling and test services at various locations for people depicting Covid 19 symptoms (Center for Disease Control and Protection, 2021). Moreover, there are free testing locations provided by the State.
All the health centers are currently transitioning to a new Covid 19 reporting system referred to as Simple report. This initiative provides healthcare facilities with the opportunity to save facility data for easier entry. Furthermore, the public can view the entered data online.
Underlying Causes
Covid 19 is a viral and not a bacterial disease. Thus, using antibiotics in the treatment is ineffective. Regardless, after contracting the disease, bacterial infections might come up because of the already weak immune system. Therefore, antibiotics can be employed in treating emerging bacterial illnesses. Jin et al. (2021) state that people with underlying illnesses may be affected severely. Moreover, the spread of Covid 19 is high in highly populated regions.
The global pandemic’s impact on the youth is damaging. This is because Covid 19 has turned back the clock on the progressive years made on youth’s wellbeing and had compromised their rights gobally. This is because it has become challenging ti access education, domestic abuse and child labor has heightened, and finding decent employment has become impossible. The societal shifts as a result of the global pandemic have led to the youth learning digitally. This has created a social divide in education as most youths cannot afford the tools required. According to Center for Disease Control and Protection (2021), half of youths cannot access online learning due to ack of computers ar home. Moreover, the school meals are missing which was a main source of nutrition among the youths. On the other hand, the eldely also experience a digitall divide wherby the rates if accessing internet is high. This makes it challenging for the elderly to get the Covid 19 updates. The low motivational access and overall skills deficit among the elderly also contribute to the disparity.
The youth and elderly understanding of government misinformation goes beyond fake newa which can be spotted easily and dismissed. However, most of the youth and elderly have felt misled by information that was conficted to them regarding government claims on the human impact of the pandemic in the country. For instance, there were health myths spread by a top government official on how drinking water and injecting disinfectant would combat the spread of Covid 19.
Evidence-Based Practice
The Covid 19 crisis has created problems for the community and healthcare system. This is because there is limited evidence on the illness and a short time to allocate the resources after the first case was reported in the country. Furthermore, inadequate resources and the lack of standard protocols worsened the situation. However, with time, the evidence-based practices revealed several questions including the resources and interventions that were unavailable and the guidelines that were contradicting the best evidence. This helped to pave way for reforms and reevaluated the level of preparedness
Identification of Data
Data reveals that America has had had at least 11 million positive cases of Covid 19 with 247,000 dead people and up to 6.8 million recovered patients (Jin et al., 2021). In a bid to increase accuracy, the US has enhanced the testing capacity to know the prevalence of the disease (Center for Disease Control and Protection, 2021). Several health regulations have been put by the government in the entire process of dealing with the pandemic.
The Center for Disease Control and Protection therefore advices the public to wear masks that cover the nose and mouth in a bid to protect other people also. Moreover, people are advised to stay six feet apart from each other (Center for Disease Control and Protection, 2021). Therefore, it id necessary to avaoid crowds and pooerly ventilated areas. It is also advisable to wash hands with soap and water regularly. Furthermore, the public is required to get the vaccine whener it is available around them (Center for Disease Control and Protection, 2021).
