Have you ever thought why every human being in the world wants to love and be loved? And why everyone wants to have love in their lives, and why no matter how many times one gets hurt in the name of love, they continue to yearn for love? Love is one of the most profound human emotions, and it is bigger than us. This is why more than two-thirds of the population believes in love at first sight. Love is a force of nature, and we cannot command, demand, or take away love. Since it takes many forms, there are different ways of looking at love because each of us experiences it in our way.
Since love takes on different forms, it is difficult to define. So often we lay awake at night searching for the exact meaning of love as we need to know what it entails. The ancient Greeks, especially Plato and Aristotle, studied love and classified it into seven different categories (Halwani, 2018). The first type of love is Eros which is sexual or passionate love. It is the equivalent of modern romantic love, and Ancient Greek regarded it as dangerous and frightening since it involved loss of control because of the primal instinct to procreate. It is a selfish type of love since it includes personal infatuation and physical pleasure.
