Imagine you are a management consultant who has been asked by Peter Michell (executive director of Michell Wool) to help to address some of the problems the Chinese factory in Suzhou has been facing.
He has asked you to prepare a 1200-word business report to explain possible causes of these issues using management theories you have learnt in this course (e.g. Hofstede’s framework). He would also like you to provide recommendations on how to overcome these problems using these theories you have used.
Ensure that your report has the following sections: An executive summary (120 words), introduction (100 words), body sections with headings (1000 words), conclusion (100 words) and recommendations (100 words) and a reference list. (The reference list and executive summary will not be included in the word count)
How to address this case study:
Step 1 – Overview the Michell Wool case study (background context)
Understanding the background issues helps to understand the context of the case study. Read the case study to gain an overview and ask and answer the following questions as you read.
* What background facts influence the current problems?
* What are the constraints or obstacles of the situation?
Step 2 – identify the problems
Identifying the major problems and their causes at this stage is vital to identify appropriate solutions later. Re-read the case study and summarise or list the issues and / or problems in your own words. Make sure you:
* sort the major problems from the minor problems
* identify evidence from the case study which relates to each of the problems
* identify underlying causes of the problems.
Step 3 – link management theory to problems and case evidence
Relating the identified issues / or problems to th
