Energy is the basis of human existence in this universe. Energy usage is categorized on the basis of how sectors of the economy such as industrial, commercial, residential and transportation consume energy. Everyday necessities such as shopping, banking, utilizing the internet, have been built and proliferated on the basis of a non-prosperous economic perspective. Without energy, it would be impossible to sustain our economic growth and subsistence. Our nation would crumble.
Canada has been heavily reliant on fossil fuel as the main source of energy. The drawback of this is that fossil fuel is non-renewable and causes pollution to the environment. In 2010, Canada’s energy consumption increased by 2.2% to 7,622 Petajoules of energy compared to the previous two years. Statistics as of 2010 indicated that the Canadian transport sector consumed 34% of energy, residential and agricultural sectors consumed 20%, manufacturing sector consumed19%, commercial and public administration consumed 15% while mining and gas extraction sectors consumed 10% of the total energy("Energy"). As a nation that has relatively high energy needs, The Canadian government is required to find renewable energy sources that can be naturally replenished and that which come from natural resources.
