A poor person dies not because he or she was neglected by God but because neither I nor you took the initiative to take care of them (Teresa, n.d.) Reversing the poverty tide requires fundamental social and economic restructuring. Mending is not just enough. It needs a change in a political mindset, not by blaming the poor but accepting that poverty is driven by an accumulated reduction in opportunities both in pay and in life chances. Eradication of poverty is the greatest global challenge and an obligatory requirement for sustainable development. Its aim is to end poverty in all its forms everywhere in our society. It aims to reduce at least by half the proportion of men, women and children of all ages living in poverty, and implement nationally appropriate social protection systems and measures for all to ensure everyone leads a comfortable life.
The manifestations of poverty includes hunger and malnutrition, limited access to education and other basic services, social discrimination and exclusion as well as the lack of participation in decision-making.
Educating women, creating good jobs, raising wages, micro financing of resources, gender equality, transparency in government spending, cancelling national debts, access to healthcare, access to clean water and proper sanitation and correct nutrition especially in infants.
