Ethical of Food Production
Why is food production raises ethical issues and considerations? Over the centuries, food production has been produced to provide enough food to meet food demand and supply. The methods of food production raise eyebrows, especially to those concerned with the methods used in food production. Notably, some ways such as mass animal production for consumption raises ethical issues regarding animal welfare. Other means of food production, such as Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) raises ethical concerns over the implications of these foods on human health. According to an ethical consequentialist framework, it is unethical to produce food through methods that pose a threat to human and animal health and life. The modern scientific method of food production is unethical, although some individuals argue that it is ethical to produce food through any method as long as they satisfy consumer demand.
Modern methods of food production are unethical, especially mass animal production for consumption. Animals are living things that used to live in their natural environment before the human population grew exponentially. As the population increased, the demand for more food increased. One of the alternative ways of producing enough food for consumption is mass animal production.
