This implies that in most societies it is usually possible to find that individual(s) whom people view or regard as evil and such people are judged based upon their action(s), (Yiching 306). Actions of evil people are closely associated with the wrong desires or even in appropriate means to achieve the end among others. This discussion explores the concept of evil in an attempt to justify that Chainman Mao is actually evil contrary to the opinion that other people hold.
Definition and types of evil
The concept of evil as discussed by Baumeister in his literature is put into various categories. Some of the definations of evil as discused by Baumeister closely relates to the conduct of Chairman Mao (180). A lot of litratures has been written concerning the achievement of Chairman Mao especially on the development of Republic of China. In fact many people attribute the success of modern China to the foundations that were laid by Chairman Mao. According to Lease, in spite of these the desires and the means to realize his goals are closely associated with evil (2011). First, Baumeister explanation of instrumental evil can be linked to the conduct of Chairman Mao. According to Baumeister instrumental evil refers to a situation where those people in power considers the victims suffering as a secondary issue as long as they are going achieve the end. Instrumental evil is closely related to the life and the era of Chairman Mao in several ways. During the 1960s when China was experiencing Cultural Revolution, Mao oppressed many people through imprisonment and torture to enable him achieves a political end. Such torture however was never known for a very long time since the government they had access and control of information. Besides, China was an independent state enjoying legitimacy thus it was shielded from external influence by other countries concerning his internal activities. In deed, some litratures sources put the estimated number of people who were tortured by the regime of Chairman Mao to over 2 million victims which is quite a big number.
Chairman Mao also exploited vengeful evil to oppress the Chines People. Baumeister argues that vengeful evil is conducted when people feel that there existence is threaten. Before Chairman Mao took over power in China, the country was controlled by dynasties. Besides, it found that China has suffered in the hand of Western Powers. In this case there was a strong desire to build a stronger China in terms of military and economy development. Chairman Mao managed to build a strong communism country by declaring that all property belongs to the state. In this case people who refused to hand over their property to the state were embarrassed and their properties were taken forcefully by the state. Mao Zedong was keen on improving his image especially after his policy of Agricultural and steel production resulted into the deaths of many Chinese thus he introduce the Cultural Revolution that could help build his image.
Additionally, it was based on vengeful desire that Mao Zedong had keen interest in controlling the China’s population. Chairman Mao is in record for opposing any theory that advocated for China to control its population growth rate as the population theory advanced by Ma Yinchu’s. Based on historical injustice that China experienced in the hands of the west, Chairman Mao during an international conference that brought members of Workers party together he called for communism countries to wipe capitalist nations. In fact Chairman Mao so no mistake is sacrificing half of its population for purposes of war (Mobo 2010). According to Mao the objective of such war was to clear the camp of the capitalist countries. In connection to this, Mao Zedong took the initiative to develop atomic bomb in the year 1958 in readiness to tackle the capitalist nations which he considered as the strongest enemies of China.
Arguments that show Chairman Mao is good
Chairman Mao’s ability to restore some level of accountability as well as fight corruption is a credit on his regime. Before, the era of Mao Zedong, China was majorly controlled by the few rich individuals who worked closely under the leadership of Chiang. The methods of governance used by Chairman Mao used so a drastic reduction in the level of corruption in the country as well as other forms of economic oppression from some generals (Andreas 11). During the leadership of Mao, he evidently managed to promote development with through eliminating leaders who come to power with selfish intentions. He advocated for a strong cultural as well as a political united nations. This he was able to do through the creation of a strong socialist society in china.
Chairman Mao----what he did, why he did so
One of the major activities associated with Chairman Mao was the introduction of great leap forward. This kind of policy was aimed at increasing the production of agricultural products as well as production of steel. This policy was accompanied with a lot harassment as well as suffering. The end to achieving the end was evil. For instance, Mao Zedong did not consider the fact that he forced people to work for long hours in farms and in industries under poor conditions. This resulted into a lot of deaths and suffering especially during the Great Chinese Famine since most the food that was produced was exported to other countries. On the other hand, Mao’s call for Cultural Revolution was marked by violent calls to remove the rich people in government. According to Mao such the bourgeois were responsible for the problems that were witness in the country (Manning 2010). During this time many people were suffered several abuses such as humiliation and torture among others. This kind of action is consider evil simply because it used violence as well as other abuses which lead to lose of life especially the killings that was done by the Red Guard Group.
How Baumeister describe "idealistic evil" as same as Chairman Mao did
According to Baumeister the concept of idealistic evil relates to moral virtue as well as idealist who remain in force to justify evil. The traits that an individual have basically the traits that related to inner character as well as the strength of the character mainly operates with the aim of ensuring that the perpetrator of the evil suffer more serious and intense deeds. This implies that evil is not simply acceptable to hurt others but it is mainly in existence because it is sacred obligation for individuals to do. This happens mostly when the individuals inflicting violent arm goes from being aright to a duty and in this way it is considered as a fair move to expect violence to be more relentless and merciless. According to Baumeister good as well as desirable ends are important mainly because they provide a justifiable means to any situation basically situation that surrounds violence of oppressive means (176). In this case, he vies violence as a method which is very effective for providing the greater good for individuals. The ability that people have to performing evil acts is only effective when an opponent is portrayed as hypocritical of though to be evil. In this condition, violence or any other form of evil is regarded as warranted situation. Further, idealistic evil can occur in groups m...
