This paper sets out to analyze the feminism theory and the role of women as depicted in Titanic Movie. Main characters that are evaluated include Rose, Cal and Jack. Rose plays a critical part in shaping the feminist theory and the role of women in the film. To start with, it is proper to acknowledge that the Titanic movie is a representation of various passions; worthless and unrealistic. The feminist theory is used to depict not just the women role in the film but how women are empowered. Rose for instance, is embroiled in a love affair; however, she leaves her fiancé for a healthier relationship to prove the proposition that a woman’s value or dignity is not dependent on the current relationship. In The First scene of Titanic, Jack views Rose as a valuable person without necessarily asking her regarding her intimate encounters (Herawati, 2016). While Jack is experienced and thinks that rose is not experienced as such, his respect for her is evident in the entire movie.Moreover, the feminist theory is also evident when Rose portrays the existence of unhealthy relationships, and that a woman has a right to exit such relationships. Cal is the best example. While Cal is a good match for Rose by virtue of his authority, riches and physical attraction, his perception of women as a commodity that can be owned and manipulated is his worst undoing (Herawati, 2016). To Rose, Cal cannot enhance a healthy relationship because of his extreme perception of women. In short, Rose in the movie tries to suggest that women represent something greater than just a sexual fetish as ill-conceived by the male dominant society. Again, Rose contends that manipulation and intimidation should not stop women from realizing their potential (Herawati, 2016). Rose summons her inner strength and courage to terminate her relationship with fiancé, which sends a clear message that women should not be held captive by men as though their very survival is dependent on them. Nonetheless, the movie also indicates that women can make decisions and men cannot save them. Again, the feminism theory comes alive when he dismisses Jack’s preoccupation to saving her. At some point, Rose uses her physique to defend herself when Jack refuses to let her go. Again, she goes an extra mile to risk her on life to redeem Jack from the sinking vessel in a dress. Rose is also quick to make firm decisions, true to his word and independent minded. The fact that she’s a woman living and male dominated society does not prevent her from leading a life based on what she deems fit. Rose takes the bother to familiarize herself with progressive concepts. She does not seem to fear masculinity. Again, Rose is highly proactive and ready to speak up her mind. This is seen when she narrates the disparity between her taste of art and Cal’s. While the society was largely male dominant, Rose had the tenacity and courage to navigate the male dominated pursuits. This interest is evident when she craves to be taught to ride, smoke and spit like a man (Herawati, 2016). She rubbishes off the socially constructed ideals of women and decides to pursue life as opposed to social norms. This is portrayed when she tells off Jack, who looks at her in a funny way because she was drinking black beer; that even women can still drink beer just as men do.By challenging tough and muscular men to undertake on some footwork, Rose exhibits confidence and strength in her own right.
