The Frequency of Young Drivers to be Involved in Traffic Accidents (Essay Sample)

Instructions:

Every year many drivers perish or get injured in road accidents. Not only do the accidents affect the drivers only, but also the passengers. Young drivers are more affected than other drivers a mystery yet to be solved. As a result, the issue of the competence of the young drivers has been a subject of debate for many years. Many people question whether these young drivers went to driving schools or they got training from their friends. A data on drivers’ shows that young drivers aged 16-19 are more likely to die in a crash than drivers aged 40-49 (Curry, et al., 2011).
The risk of many young drivers causing accidents is linked to their over-confidence. When young people attend driving schools, they are very eager to pick up the driving skills. As a result, they only focus on the physical ability to drive and start acting like they know it all. Some even drop out of the school after they have learned the necessary skills. The young drivers then start driving with the little experience and end up causing fatal accidents (De Winter & Dodou, 2010). When these accidents occur the first thing the authorities find out is whether the driver was licensed. Almost all these drivers are licensed to the amusement of the people.
Consequently, all questions and complaints are directed to the licensing authorities. Many people believe that the authorities should be strict in issuing driving licenses. Many people also think that the best way to reduce the number of traffic accidents is to make all young drivers complete a safe driving education course before being licensed to drive (Lucidi et al., 2010). It may not be the best action to take, but it will improve the competence of the young drivers who with time will gain experience hence be more competent on the roads.
