Good Morning Vietnam! Film Summary
Good Morning Vietnam is a satirical war film directed by Barry Levinson and written by Mitch Markowitz, which was meant to depict the effects of war in Vietnam in a comical and relatable manner. It is set at the peak of warfare between the USA and Vietnam in 1965 in the small county of Saigon, where the USA army has set up a base of operations. The film follows the life of the main star, Adrian Cronauer, as Robert Williams, while he works as a DJ meant to lighten the load on the soldiers. This paper summarizes the film's plot and lessons learned and gives a general opinion on the quality of the film.
The film was produced by Touchstone Pictures and released in January of 1988 with the title "Good Morning Vietnam!" which was the main character's catchphrase, played by Robert Williams. The antagonists in the story were Adrian's senior commanding officers in the army (Sergeant Major Dickerson and Private Garlick), played by J.T Walsh and Forest Whitaker, respectively. The supporting roles of a love interest Trinh and his rebel brother Tuan are played by Chintara Sukapatana and Phan Duc To (Mitchelle 11). The film revolves around the experiences of Adrian as he interacts with his seniors and Vietnamese locals throughout his stay.
