Teachers experience a hard time when doing their job. In schools there are students who pose challenges to their teachers. Strategies for handling these students can be applied and make it a little easier for the teacher. The strategies are well discussed. Examples of the challenging students will be put down and how to handle them as well (Benson, 2014).
Toni is the first scenario. She reported to be threatening the community. This caused her to be sent home. She is reported to say that is uncomfortable being around so many white people. She even says that she would prefer to be in a school full of black children. In this case the teacher is expected to build a trusting relationship with the student. This way he can easily guide him or her through as she opens up. The teacher should also not ignore the behavior. The faculty should take part in the decision being made. Charlie and dean are also featured. They are children who seem to struggle with translation. Dean’s form of development made him unsuitable for a standard class. Teachers can help these students by altering the surroundings of the room to make it easy for Charlie. On the other hand, dean got a different path to success (Benson, 2014).
Rosa is another case, she seems to sit alone in class and she also demonstrates special skills such as skateboarding. In order to deal with this case, the teachers can observe the students. Teachers can also take their time to mentor the students and build relationships with them. With a mentor to guide those students are easier to teach. Teachers also have a hard time because some teachers are not genuine in their work. This poses a challenge for the genuine teachers. This can be dealt with by employing students into leadership positions. As the students take part in the leadership roles they are able to contribute to the school. They also help in fighting for the rights of the other students therefore cutting down malicious teachers (Benson, 2014).
Students who have learning disabilities make it hard for the teachers. For example, Paul who has Non-verbal Learning Disability. He makes it hard for the teachers. This can be countered by ensuring that the student has understood everything before moving on to the next topic. Encouraging the students and motivating them not to give up is also helpful. Engaging Paul in all school activities without will also help. Cedric is also seen to focus more performance other than being able to learn. He also has unclear academic record. The teacher can engage him in discussions with other students. He can also take time to teach him separately and help him learn. Giving him extra courses and monitoring his progress is also an efficient way. Encouraging Cedric to ask questions on the unclear points would also help him (Benson, 2014).
Amanda is the next case she seems to prejudge the teacher and this holds her back from answering questions. To handle such a case a teacher can ask non-judgmental questions and encourage a student to speak. For example, asking him; “what do you think?” “What is your opinion?”. The teacher can also ask everyone to contribute in class and this will help in building the students’ confidence. Once everyone in class is given a chance to talk, then a student like Amanda can be able to speak out (Benson, 2014).
The case of Jay and Tito is also featured. Teachers tend to prioritize the secondary curriculum, leaving out the primary program. This can be dealt with by encouraging one to deal with first things first. They can also encourage the students to set goals that will help them prioritize the most important things. Jasmine being another case has suffered rejection in the past. She decided to ask for help from her classmate other than the teacher. Teachers need to understand the emotional feelings of the students apart from the academic part. Teachers also need to embrace emotional Intelligence and understand the students and learn how to respond to them (Benson, 2014).
Some students are used to being perfectionists while others do their work poorly. Also ...
