1.     Executive Summary
In this executive summary section, the author briefly discusses theoretical concepts, the problem(s), recommendations and, or conclusions entailed in this detailed report. This report covers overcrowding and access bed blocks as challenges faced in the emergency department of the hospital I work in. The story persuades the CEO to consider the recommendations to solve these two key challenges. The report covers several system thinking approaches appropriate to address the hospital’s –CALHN - problems. On checking on the various problem-solving methods, the report recommends on design thinking method as the best approach to solving the hospitals’ challenges. Towards the end of the report, author’s reflections on the major assignment and HACM9207 topic are discussed. It is a workable report which considers the problems currently faced in the hospital. As such, when appropriately applied, the recommendations of this report would create a positive impact by solving the overcrowding and access bed block challenges faced in the hospital.
2.     Background
At CALHN hospital, nurses, and all healthcare providers are dedicated to providing top-notch healthcare services to their patients. Nearly everyone you would come across, whether a clinical staff or subordinates staff, works towards the achievement of the organization’s missions and visions. The importance of this institution to both the local community and the national government cannot be justified enough. The organization has several departments, such as the emergency department, the cardiology department, neurology departments, ICU department, and so many more departments. Under the able leadership of the medical Chief Executive officer, all these departments have been operational. It is a conducive workplace that accommodates the employees and also the patients who are the target customers.
