Digital media plays an important role in the society. Information is shared widely as they report on the trending activities and events that affect people’s way of living. Digital media is therefor considered an important element in the promotion of equality in terms of gender. On the other hand, digital media has greatly affected the youth .This is due to the growing sexual contents published in the magazines and electronic media. When the youths are exposed to such kind of sexual contents at an early age, there sexual beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors are affected.
Although Sexual content can affect both genders once they reach certain age, the adolescents are considered the most vulnerable. They are exposed to such contents at the stage where there sexual attitudes, sexual behaviors and the gender roles are being shaped. During adolescent, the cognitive skills that aid better analysis of digital media posts and proper decision making are not fully developed. A recent analysis of the broadcast media content across Europe showed that teen viewers see more incidents of sexual behavior at prime time.
This is further worsened by the fact that these sexual activities are witnessed four times more in unmarried teens than spouses. More than 80 % of the movies shown in the internet have sexual content and a recent analysis also proved that 60% of music portrays sexual feelings, sexually suggestive dance moves and provocative clothing. A survey that was carried out nationally show that high school an average 17% own internet mobile phones and more than 80% have either used a mobile phone or has been exposed to the internet.
Sociodemographic factors such as ethnicity, age and sex have been linked to their choices and preferences when they chose what to view. Most of the girls in this stage prefer network television programs with more social content than the boys. The boys however prefer more hardcore sexual material found in x rated films and
