Importance of Accountability in Military
What is Accountability.
Accountability in the military is the obligation or duty of a military officer for storing or keeping record of documents, property or funds. Generally, it is imposed by regulations, law or lawful order. Necessarily it’s not a must the person held accountable to have actual possession of the documents, property or funds (Anon, 2019). Most people find it hard to distinguish between accountability and responsibility. Accountability is primarily concerned with records while responsibility is primarily concerned with safekeeping, custody and care. It limits thoughtless actions and promotes more careful well-thought-out decision-making.
Importance
Helps the one in charge to know where every soldier is at so that if they need a soldier for something else, they’ll know where to locate him/her. This is also applicable in soldiers of the same rank. It’ll help to find out if everyone in a unit or platoon is safe and also make sure they are safe wherever they are.
