Importance of Drones in Controlling Ocean Pollution
Drones, through their sophisticated technology, help in controlling ocean pollution. Human activity has been the main cause of this type of pollution that has far-reaching effects to both flora and fauna. Harmful effects of pollutants deposited in the oceans affect both the aquatic life and also human beings who depend on the water for earning a living. Many nations have started implementing drones in their systems. The latter are corrective mechanisms to the problem (Haveman, 2011). Drones protect tourism industries that are largely affected by water pollution. This paper will address the causes, effects and possible drone interventions that can be applied to end the problem of oceans pollution.
Drones work towards controlling oil pollution. The latter is mostly caused by the large water vessels such as ships and ferries while transporting people and cargo across the large water masses. Mechanical problems of such vessels lead to leakages of either the fuel consumed in powering their engines or the cargo being transported by tankers. Many nations get engaged in importation of oil from source countries (Hoskisson, 2010). If drones are not used during transportation, oil ends up spilling in the water through exhaust fumes or leakages hence causing the aquatic creatures to die. Drones, therefore, have sophisticated software that can demarcate the regions that are prone to oil pollution
Drones are effective in management of industrial waste. This waste poses adverse effects on the oceans. Drones help in the monitoring of disposable wastes from industries. Many industries release their waste direct to oceans such as hot and dirty water. The waste is ejected after cooling machines, and also untreated waste products that are released after being processed. They trigger harmful effects on the aquatic creatures, hence leading to their death. They also release harmful untreated fumes comprising of Carbon (IV) Oxide and Sulphur which react with rain water to form acidic substance (Hoskisson, 2010). Drones control acidic rain, which after mixing with the ocean water changes its pH level, makes it hard for the aquatic life to survive.
Drones can ascertain the location of major nonpoint sources of ocean pollution such as runoff water that drains pollutants from the land to the ocean. It occurs when harmful materials are deposited in the water such as oil from ships, dumping of plastic materials, or directing industrial waste to the oceans. Soil is also directed to the ocean when it rains, hence making the aquatic environment unfavorable for the supporting life of its inhabitants (Haveman, 2011). Drones help governments allocate the necessary resources to such sectors and affected regions.
Drones have surveillance cameras that can alert the concerned parties about any death of aquatic animals. When most of the aquatic creatures die they are taken to the shores by oceans currents. They start decomposing, hence releasing foul smell which attracts sharks and whales to the coastal beaches. These creatures are very dangerous since they attack human beings at the beaches. Drones, basing on their fast nature, can give out necessary information about such incidences (Haveman, 2011). They make a lot of tourists both domestically and internationally to start avoiding visiting the places for recreation. Drones, therefore, make owners of the coastal resorts and achieve their targets and maintain loyalty to their businesses.
In conclusion, drones help in controlling ocean pollution that could lead to death of aquatic creatures such as fish and plants. The effect is also felt by people when the pollution spreads to the coastal beaches. It leads to outbreak of diseases to the people who visit them for recreational purposes. Drones monitor many resorts located along the sea banks rely on the aquatic creatures for providing food to their clients. Drones control ocean pollution, which ensures the safety of human life.
