Internet is an important tool that enhances and offer significant help in advancement of English language around the globe. Through internet many people can access study materials and resources to help improve, learn and communicate elaborately. This essay therefore seeks to oppose the argument that internet is ruining our language; it also asserts that internet is an essential tool for studying, it helps many people understand the world and its current trends. Warschauuer (2001) Internet has had a major role in improvement of the English language in consideration to general communicative language principles. The paper also analyses the study on the implication of the internet on language and comparison of online classes with the conventional class attendance pattern in the effort to show how effective online learning of the language is as opposed to traditional ways of learning. A study by Allen and Seaman indicates that there has been a large increase in the number of online class registration and class attendance. This research seeks to identify the main factors towards online class uptake and how the internet has a major role in clarifying learning.
The research will focus on secondary sources and will have opposing arguments on the mentioned issues that revolve around use of internet in language study. It will also focus on the negative impacts of the internet in learning, especially English language study. The study will also offer suggestions on ways the internet can be used effectively to increase understanding of language and improvement and reducing negative effects of internet learning. It is important to acknowledge positive impacts of the internet in linguistics study; however, it is also vital to note that there are negative effects and the need to rectify them. Additionally, in the following section, the study will present studies from Jamlifar and Chalak (2014), it exploits how internet usage has had a great impact in language enhancement and as well as show how it offers an interactive platform, improves skills and general use. Likewise, the study from Lekawael (2017) states that internet is an essential tool in modern world. Further, he suggests that presence and use of smart phones in schools increases internet access to students which help them learn language easily by accessing resources at wherever and whenever they need. Allen and Seaman 2008 research exploits how online study has exponentially increased between the years 2000 and 2008. Lastly, another source to use in this study will be Chris (2014) who explores the impact of the internet on the English Language. He talks on how the internet has changed the meaning on some of the most common terms. How the language has acquired new vocabularies in line with internet usage. This study will also have a concluding paragraph that will summarize this paper.
The number of students taking online study of language has increased by more than 12% since the beginning of the year 2000. ( Allen & Seaman, 2008). The increase of numbers of students taking online lessons is an indicator on how internet has had huge impact on education. Internet penetration across learning institutions has ensured that colleges open online classes for students. English language is used as a mode of instructions while these models and tutorials. Therefore, it can be noted that internet has become an essential tool in sharpening and improving education. While the internet has increased online learning, it has also increased active learning among students. Internet offer a ground for research based learning which is well structured. With increased number of communities that access the internet it is easier for students of language to do researches of different languages associated with English.
Use of smartphones in schools has increased access of reference materials and flourishes in Enlish language study. Smart phones usage among students increase learning compared to traditional learning which is considered to be slow. Internet communication tools can be accessed easily by smart phones, literary English aspects such as writing, listening and reading can be greatly be improved by information accessed via smart phones. Besides, colleges are willing to design school websites that support mobile access that make it convenient for English language learners to use. Communication through emails, text messages in smart phones is essential because it improves language skills. Smartphone’s use also has an impact in development of social skills among learners. Social skills are important since they enhance better use of English as a mode of communication among students. Social media networks increase interaction among learners in return helps in language practice.
Moreover, use of online learning has outweighed traditional of traditional learning.(Allen & Seaman, 2003). This paper finds out that using internet learning has greatly changed ways of learning, online learning has become better than classroom learning because it has made is possible and less time consuming for students to access and reference materials during their research based learning. Workload is vastly decreased by the internet mode of learning; traditional learning has a lot of assignments as compared to internet learning. Students do not feel the workload while studying online. This has made learning efficient in many institutions. Many institutions are embracing this mode because it is less expensive as well.
