Structured, unstructured and semi-structured interviews in music industry
Introduction
There are three types of interviews used in the music industry to interview artists about their work or progress in their careers. They include structured, unstructured, and semi-structured types of interviews. This essay will outline the main characteristics of each of the three types of interviews in the music industry.
Structured interview
A structured interview is when the interviewer uses predetermined questions to interview music artists. That is, the questions will follow a certain sequence and will touch on a specific topic. The questions are prepared before the interview. Due to this, various artists will be asked the same questions with the same order, especially when they are interviewed as a group (Bolderston, 2012). The structured interview is sometimes referred to as standard, patterned, or planned interviews due to the use of the same and questions and order.
The structured interview has the advantage of easily comparing the progress of the artists in their careers or talents due to the use of the same questions. The interview can quickly identify an artist with exceptional skills or talent in a group by use of how he answers the questions. The evaluation process is very fair due to the use of the same questions. (Castillo-Montoya, 2016). Due to this, structured interviews are legally defensible on how artists were selected.
