On September 10, 2018 this headline was presented by Fox News, "Dallas police officer charged with manslaughter in fatal shooting of unarmed man in his own apartment" (Mackenzie, 2018). There has been a debate in the USA in recent years on whether or not white police officers are intentionally targeting black people (Lopez, 2018). A few cases of officers allegedly mishandling or mistreating black people had preceded this particular incident where the officer, Amber Guyger, shot Botham Shem Jean by mistake in his own apartment at the end of her shift (Mackenzie, 2018). Several protests by blacks had been made on streets in different states to complain about this outright discrimination and mistreatment. The use of words like ‘manslaughter’, ‘fatal’ and ‘unarmed’ in the above headline served to exaggerate the incident because the message implied was that the victim was intentionally targeted and killed, seeing that he was shot in his own house while not armed.
