Based on research, the disadvantages of technological advancements in the society surpass the advantages in numerous respects. Technology applies in nearly every aspect of life in the contemporary society. As people get used to life with convenience, unprepared for issues develop from the constant use of technology. The most common negative issues attributed to technology are social and health related ones (Hurmiz, 2015). Technology in all it’s many forms has had devastating effects on the lives of many people. This essay will serve as sufficient substantiation of the varied ways in which technology can be dangerous if misused.
Socialization has particularly been greatly negatively impacted by technological advancements. Since the invention of the internet, the social structures of the society have been utterly obliterated. Some people have resorted to online dating and socialization platforms whose authenticity in relationship development remains questionable. Indolence has heightened significantly as people spend most of their time watching their favorite TV channels, playing online games and surfing the web. Rather than quit the web and create real life connections, many people have become entirely reliant on it for friendship needs. Upon long-term dependence on the internet, one eventually loses socialization capacities and the ability to develop a strong relationship (Hurmiz, 2015). They end up lonely and disappointed as some even develop suicidal thoughts. Apparently, despite the limited socialization opportunities the internet offers though social media sites, overdependence on it can be detrimental to one’s ability to interact in real life.
