Mike Rose makes a compelling case for furthering one's personal and professional training in his piece titled "Blue-Collar Brilliance," which may be found on this website. Rose illustrates the idea of attending a conventional educational institution by providing images of his household, notably his mum. The theory and belief that increasing one's level of academic achievement may improve one's intellect. Formal schooling makes recognizing and comprehending scholastic accomplishment easier by providing evidence based on a person's score and results. Rose demonstrates that the idea that one's level of achievement is directly related to the amount of professional schooling one has obtained is inaccurate. There are instances in which people who stop going to school put in much effort and flourish in their job, contributing to their overall achievement. In Blue-Collar Brilliance, the author effectively examines intelligence assumptions and how individuals' socioeconomic status would be understood. In the same article, the author uses his family to illustrate how hardworking individuals are significantly intelligent with skills that match those of white-collar workers. The author also effectively stresses that blue-collar employees are essential in ensuring progress in the country's economy. However, this category of employees should not always be considered as belonging to a low intelligent category. Instead, these individuals should be regarded as specialized professionals. From a subjective critique, this article by Rose is essential in showing how the concept of "intellect should not be interpreted based on achievements in formal education (Rose, 2009). In this particular case, the author utilizes pathos as a means of expressing ideas concerning the subject of blue-collar brilliance. From several perspectives, the theories utilized by Rose are characteristic of depicting the author as a credible scholar in blue-collar brilliance. Through experience, Rose ascertains his credibility as a teacher with vast experience in research concerning blue-collar jobs. The utilization of logos and pathos are well rich in Rose's essay.
In his argument, Rose employs both emotional signals and logical reasoning to elicit an emotional reaction from the reader and convince them of his thoughts. He leverages pathos ingeniously throughout his argumentation by using personal experiences and presenting members of his family to evoke a feeling of melancholy and nostalgia. Rose describes his childhood experiences, those of his mother, and the setting where she worked as a server. The image that he paints engages the audience's imagination and piques their interest in his argument. After that, he applies logos to his argument by drawing parallels between intellect and the formal schooling system (Rose, 2009).
