Symbolism in The Glass Menagerie
In this literary work by Tennessee Williams, the most significant issue to out into concern is the understanding of how symbolism is used. From a close read of the work, the use of the phrase "blue roses" beings about a representation of what the audience would consider to be Jim's high school nickname that would also represent Laura. From this point of view, the use of this phrase represents a symbol of Laura's allure. In considering this symbolism of the artwork, it is imperative to identify that the audience would see the name as being a representation of author's sister in the name of Rose whose character is represented by Laura.
Secondly, the glass unicorn is seen throughout the artwork as one of the favorite items cherished by Laura. According to Laura's perspective, the glass unicorn is of great importance in the sense of representing her perpetuity (Williams, 2011). Issues such as loneliness can be drawn through this symbolism in the entire work's story.
