Most nurses feel frustrated while dealing with such patients, largely due to limited time coupled with lack of empathy; this is precisely because these patients keep on abusing drugs knowingly. A lot of focus is diverted towards their medical condition. Patients abusing drugs differ in how they respond during withdrawal some tend to experience physiological challenges as seen among alcohol related cases, and others are likely to commit suicide. In John’s case, he was less prone to experience physical danger; this was highly depended on good health care. In the event of lacking such an atmosphere, he risked getting distressed while still feeling so agitated. Physicians have a variety of options at their disposal; among the options is the idea of replacing the abused opiate, however, they might as well consider substituting the methadone. Apart from this, they are also likely to take into consideration using non-opioid related cure (Darves, 2008).
