Ethical oral tradition entails the positive or morally accepted aspects that are passed orally from generation to generation for both the African Tradition and the Confucian tradition. The messages passed may be conveyed through speech, fables, songs, folktales, proverbs, epic histories, narration and sayings. Confucianism depicts a philosophical and religious tradition that has its roots back in 2500 years ago in China. The Confucian tradition later spread covering most of the East Asia region.
The theme that deemed to be valuable for the two societies was passing of the social morals, and the structure of living of different communities, which in turn gave one a sense of belonging to a certain group of persons (Williams, Raymond Williams 1976). According to the laid structures of living for both the African and the Confucian, individuals were assigned different duties and roles, in which they were expected to accomplish while espousing the standards required as perceived by the community members. As a result of the self-worth and the self-recognitive aspect in the society, individuals lived in mutual harmony as a family who originated from the same line (Williams, Raymond Williams 1976).
In our family, we believe in family gatherings for celebrating at least once annually to thank our supreme being for protecting and sustaining us against the evil ordeals.
