Fordham University Application Personal Statement
The art of financial knowledge entails the key routes of structure, shape, and logic of quantity. My family’s association with business and finance motivated my burning desire to pursue a career in the field of finance and accounting. Through the interaction with my family, I have witnessed firsthand how comprehending finance is significant to success in any career path. This has inspired my ambition to return to academics to fulfill my life goals as I am a goal oriented person. My growing fascination with investments management is my inspiration as I can achieve anything I set my mind too. 
I’m a senior Purdue student from China, and I’m pursuing three majors in Economics, Finance, and Accounting. I achieved 22 transfer credits from AP in high school. After, joining college, I realized that instructors maintained the study grade privacy and did not rank students anymore. I lost focus in my academics and my credit deteriorated. I never lost my determinations to excel. In my senior year, I realized that I had wasted a lot of time. It was now time for me to prepare for my future. I concentrated in my education with the objective of securing my future, and my efforts bore fruits. I managed to score an A in all my finance classes. Currently, my GPA score is 3.11 but my management GPA is 3.58 attributed to achieving all A’s in my finance related courses. I am preparing for CFA Level I and I look forward to taking the CFA Level I test next summer. In my extra-curricular activities, I engage in playing golf during the weekend. I am a member of Purdue Chinese Golf Club. Apart from pursuing finance, playing golf is my passion.
Looking forward to achieving a career in finance, I appreciate a strong theoretical, and practical background is important for informed financial management. I have learned of maintaining my personal finance and monthly budgeting. Therefore, a master’s degree in finance will be the next step towards actualizing my career goals and ambitions. I believe that Fordham University is the key to my career coupled with my enrollment in the Gabelli School of Business. Fordham University will enrich me with attaining the educational background for practicing finance. Furthermore, to be a strong financier specializing in financial analysis, I believe that incredible business management skills go in hand. Therefore, Gabelli School of Business is the right place for me to nurture my business analytic and management skills.
Pursuing a master’s degree in Finance and joining business school are the right skills nurture strong financial, business development and management skills. I look forward to being an indelible asset in Fordham University and Gabelli Business School. I will adhere to all rules and regulations of the institutions.
Ultimately, I plan to start a financial analysis and business management consulting firm after achieving a successful career in finance and business. I am committed to success with a positive attitude of learning new things. I am honest, confident and I possess incredible organization skills handy for a busy corporate life.
Essay II
The ability to contribute extensively in a team, organization or a team is what I view as leadership. As a leader, one has to have the attributes of initiative, diligence, commitment, innovation, cooperation and effective communication skills (Pope & Blyth, 2008).
My recent experience in teamwork was during the summer when we were preparing for summer internship programs. Our finance instructor had instructed us to find most suitable members that share similar or related career paths. The project was for students to research and contribute to being effective finance practitioners during internships at respective investment firms. Our team was composed of seven members. Since I had achieved the highest grade in our finance lessons, I was chosen as the team leader. As the youngest of the team, I knew that I had to be fearless and above all act as a leader. I had to plan team meetings, agendas, and team activities. The two months project was not easy. At first, the obstacles were many. There was poor coordination in the team that made some members dormant with a ‘don’t care’ attitude. Secondly, the time we organized for meeting was not respected as some members either attended late or did not participate in the group meeting.
As a team leader, I needed to show performance and ensure cohesion within the group. I decided to implement effective communication and planning. I decided that to send text messages to members reminding them of team meetings. Within a week, the text messages were working, and the group meeting attendance rate improved. Further, to instill trust in the members, I decided that we would organize for a soccer match during the weekend in teams of four. The aim of the game was to foster coordination and effective communication in the team. The team learned about teamwork and not personal competition.
