PHILOSOPHY OF SCHOOL NURSING Name: Institutional Affiliation: Philosophy of School Nursing Introduction As a nursing leader, there is need to consider the fact that my job environment requires a new approach to work and life. In as much as I have achieved spending numerous hours in a hospital environment, I am certain that the hours I have spent will be essential in enhancing my nursing knowledge than those spent in college (Kearney-Nunnery, 2012). I will not only be a nursing student standing in as a nurse who needs to be supervised in a bid to ensure accuracy during care, but I will be a nurse who can deliver quality care with limited supervision. My transition from being a nursing student to a novice nurse will be a critical experience that will transform my career in the delivery of efficient care. However, there is a need to develop my personal philosophy in nursing practice to establish the approach to care I anticipate to deliver (Kearney-Nunnery, 2012). This will remain essential since it will help in defining the values, qualities, and principles I will employ in a bid to become a practical nurse, an aspect that denotes the purpose of this paper. Standards of Nursing Practice Responsibilities It is essential to understand that nurses are granted the opportunity to take care of lives every day. Given this, I will considerably take the chance to understand the needs of the patients whether psychological, physical, or emotional during the care process. I will consequently utilize efficient tools in creating comfort and healing among patients, an aspect that denotes the need to increase the knowledge I have and considering the changes that occur within the nursing field (Kearney-Nunnery, 2012). This will be effective in the planning for care that fully meets the needs of the diverse patients. I will ensure that ethics is incorporated in upholding the patient’s confidentiality and legally protecting them, thus supporting the fundamental rights of these patients that include rest, acceptance, elimination, safety, nutrition, and oxygenation as detailed in the Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs. In addition to this, I will honor the diversity of patients by appreciating the beauty of their religions, cultures, color, and human races (Kearney-Nunnery, 2012). Lastly, as a nursing leader, I believe in education and the application of evidence-based practices with the aim of improving and promoting care. These aspects can only be achieved by enhancing my education, communication, corporation, and collaboration in my leadership skills. Personal Perception of Nursing Nursing is one of the professions that require knowledge and understanding of the patient’s body as well as substances and their essence in the care of patients. This clearly establishes the fact that the process of care needs to be patient-centered, with the nurses willing to have an understanding of the patients holistically (Sitzman & Eichelberger, 2011). On the other hand, the importance of nursing can be attributed to the caregiver's ability to view patients in an altruistic manner, thus taking consideration of the autonomy of patients and being advocates during the care process. It is additionally essential to consider that patient also come from diverse backgrounds and hold on to different beliefs, an aspect that denotes the need to take consideration and respecting their beliefs and wishes during the process of care (Visalia Unified School District (n.d.). Alternatively, it is essential also to consider informing the patients and seeking their consent when arriving at decisions and outcomes during the process of care. In this case, the inclusion of an altruistic approach in the process of care remains important in genuinely expressing the patient's concern in care.
