Project Management in Creative Industry  Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Course Professor’s Name Date Introduction: Project failure or success is influenced by several factors such as lack of resources, poor planning, and risks. However, the role of the project manager in the successful implementation of the project cannot be underestimated. The project manager is a key player in the project planning, execution, and implementation. Therefore, the implementation of the project to meet the goals and objectives will depend on the ability and competence of the project manager to effectively perform his roles and responsibilities. The main constraints of the project such as the project cost, time, and quality are all dependent on the ability of the project manager to plan and execute. Hence, this paper examines the critical role of the project manager in the successful management and implementation of the projects and with a particular analysis of his/her role in the creative industry. Lastly, the paper highlights the project risks, constraints, and critical barriers which might affect the success of the project and how the challenges of the project implementation can be overcome through effective leadership skills during the implementation and motivation of the project teams to achieve the desired project objectives and goals. Project goals and objectives: The planning of the project in the creative industry involves the identification of the main objectives and goals that the project seeks to achieve. According to Gray, et al (2008), the project goals and objectives will assist the project teams to remain focused and work towards the achievement of the identified objectives. The project objectives must be SMART (Simple, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound). The SMART objectives help the project team to achieve the desired goals such as the timely completion of the project according to the project schedule. Projected budget (Food, (2009). The cost component of the project is important. However, the budgeted cost estimates the project requirements from the initial stage to the completion stage. The budgeted costs will be based on approximated costs of the project in terms of the project requirements such as raw materials, labor costs, operation overheads, and other contingency costs associated with the project risks. The project manager is therefore required to monitor the progress of the project and update the costs appropriately. The projected budget is also one of the key monitoring tools used by the project manager to check whether the project being implemented does not deviate from the projected costs. Risk assessment: The creative project implementation is done in an environment that is associated with several risks. The achievement of the project objectives, schedules, and timelines will depend on the implementation and deliverables which are set by the project manager. However, sometimes the milestones of the projects may not be achieved as desired due to unforeseen events and uncertainties which may affect the implementation of the construction project. Zavadskas et al (2010) advocate that advertisement project managers must conduct the risk assessment for the advertisement project to understand the possibility of the risk occurring and the impact of the risk occurrence on the project stakeholders and the general community. The evaluation of the probability of the risk occurrence will indicate the chances of completing the project within the schedule and the timeframe since each activity of the project is bound with time. Assumptions and Constraints: Even though project implementation and achievement of the objectives will largely depend on the project constraints such as cost, quality, project scope, time, resources, and customer satisfaction. Armstrong, & Page, (2015), argues that the assumptions are the project indicators and the key monitoring tools that every manager will depend on when implementing the project. The planning and implementation of the project must be focused on the project constraints. The project assumptions are the events that are probable to happen during the project implementation. The project manager will undertake the forecasting of the likely events and state the project assumptions. The identified assumptions are likely events that are bound to happen and cannot be avoidable. However, the assumptions can fail to meet the anticipated results hence affecting the project performance and outcome. Critical project barriers: According to Vanity, & Shaharoun,(2008), The successful implementation of the creative project may be affected by the project barriers. The project manager must identify the possible creation of project barriers and initiate the appropriate action to address the identified barriers on time. Most creative projects have failed and the failure has been attributed to the inability of the project manager to identify and address the project barriers appropriately. The barriers can relate to a lack of clarity on the project goals and objectives which mostly will affect the project team’s participation in the project implementation successfully. Besides the creative project failure can also be attributed to a lack of enough resources to facilitate the successful implementation of the creative project. . Project Team Roles and Responsibilities: The implementation and execution of the project’s success depend on the planning and cooperation of project stakeholders such as the sponsors, managers, site managers, and the local community who are the main stakeholders in the project implementations. (Simon, 2006). The project manager must undertake his responsibilities of ensuring proper project planning and the availability of adequate resources to facilitate the implementation of the project. The achievement of the successful implementation of the project will focus on the components of cost, time, and quality of the project implementation processes. The project manager must pose strong interpersonal and communication skills which enable the manager to identify the right project team for the advertisement project. Project Timeline The project component of time is vital in the implementation and ensuring that the project deliverables are adequately achieved. According to Kerzner, ( 2017). The creation project manager must identify the activities to be performed and the specific dates when the tasks are to commence and be completed. The project activities are analysed and the timespan for the completion of each activity is set by approximating the duration for the completion of each identified task. The project timelines are developed upon the analysis of the tasks and how the tasks are dependent. The timelines for the projects are dependent on the Gant charts which are drawn to describe the project activities and the critical dates associated with each project activity. The project timelines for the creative industry are based on the work breakdown structures (WBS) which clearly define the project requirements and the timelines for the implementation of the project.
