The Causes of Qatar’s Higher Gross National Happiness in MENA
It has always been argued that wealth is a determiner of Gross National Happiness (GNH), an index that is used to gauge the collective well-being of citizens in relation to other nations. Truth be told, there is nothing much to be happy about in poverty-stricken countries. However, with wealth comes amusement. According to Bukhari (2019), Qatar was the 29th happiest country in the world, an improvement from the 32nd position in 2018. Notably, this performance is among the best in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). While countries in MENA are known for their abundance of resources and culture, Qatar has managed to surpass most of them as regards GNH. Good facilities, seamless relationship with government and leaders, and exciting entertainment are the reasons why Qatar has a higher GNH than most MENA countries.
