There is a famous Japanese proverb that goes "a kind word can warm three winter months" One action, one word, one simple display of affection can have more impact on an individual than you could ever imagine. A good morning or volunteering in the community, there are endless ways passing kindness. Most people underestimate the small things in life the end of being extremely valuable. These are so many random acts of kindness that affect others as well as yourself. These I recently extended kindness to my neighbors and strangers and the experience transformed and reinforced my views on passing kindness along.
There are different forms of random acts of kindness. These ranging from simple acts like holding an open door for someone, to picking up litter or volunteering at a retirement home. One day I randomly felt like doing something special for my neighbors. I went out and bought la variety of fruits and put them in plastics bags and left then at my neighbors doorsteps. I even stuck a flower in the plastic bag of each of their newspapers. Imagine the expression of their faces when they got something extra to brighten their day.
Saying a simple 'thank you' is not hard and yet it can change the outlook of someone else's day. I was once told it takes more muscles to frown than to smile. I have noticed that just being polite to the people around you can really make the atmosphere around you more positive.
Last week as I was heading to my appointment at the doctor's office, I decided to use the elevator as I entered the elevator I pressed the button and waited for the door to close. I was running late and was a little concerned that I would not make it for my appointment in time. I saw a frail old lady enter the building and slowly make her way to the elevator. I waited for the old lady and held the door open until she got on board the elevator with me. Even though I was getting late for my appointment, I went a little out of my way to help this old woman. When she entered the elevator she smiled and appreciated what I had done for her. Something as small as holding the door open for the old man had a positive impact on his day.
