Introduction
According to the Webster dictionary, "success is satisfactory completion of something" or "the gaining of wealth, respect or fame." George Smith is a healthy man in one of the native communities of Iowa, and he has an extensive ranch of horses and a fleet of cars. Additionally, he is a real estate guru and engages in charity events within the state. From society's point of view, George Smith is successful because he has made it in life, he has material wealth. In the same State, Jacob Adams is a teacher by profession, and although he does not have wealth or fame, he has turned young people into leaders and leaders to agents of change across Iowa state and the USA in general. I believe success should not be measured in terms of wealth or fame or respect but rather with the change it has brought to an individual and society in general.
Several community leaders can be termed as courageous because they faced adversities and fight for the people's rights. For instance, Martin Luther King Junior is termed successful because he fought for the rights of black people despite threats. From the society's point of view, it can also mean defending cultural values and moral values in a particular community or the society in its entirety. Moreover, success is extensive, and it is more than just defending or overriding life challenges but the moral strength to counter challenges. These challenges might be personal, family, or society's; moral strength incapacitates every weakness both internally and externally hence success.
There are several ways in which success defines life, but it is only possible to determine success in one's life by understanding the "success word" correctly. As discussed earlier, everyone has a different meaning when it comes to redefining success in someone's life. For example, Martin Luther King Junior, Jeff Bezos, and Elon Musk are all termed successful by exploring individual achievements. The achievements determine their success, and that's how both the dictionary and society see success. Arguably, the ideology carries a lot of incentives. It comprises courage and the power to transform, which is why achievements and accomplishments alone are not enough to measure success.
Janitors and cleaners always make our homes, offices, and environment as the whole appealing; in this case, their impact to the society is indirect. These people greatly impact everyone; however, it is too hard to recognize their efforts. According to me, this is a real success because their effect is indirect, but their service is vital. They are not known anywhere, but their impact is quite enormous, not just in society but also on the planet. They nurture the environment and help businesses flourish therefore; I believe their impact can demonstrate the true meaning of success.
Typically, true success cannot be defined by fame or accomplishments. However, achievements are essential as well because they help measure the effort invested and the returns after a specific period of time. Most people confuse respect and fame; some see them as equals; however, these are two different words. As per the definition from webster and Oxford dictionary, respect is more important than fame. And believe it is the primary reason why celebrities seek fame rather than respect. On the contrary, when it comes to other professions which are not in the limelight, respect should not be replaced with fame. In this case, success will determine the impact an individual has on society, hence successful and respectful.
Additionally, a successful person should have an indirect influence on society, and they should be able to create change not only for themselves but those around them. Through this process, success will cater to the rich and famous and the people who indirectly impact society.
Everyone is getting “success” all wrong because people think it can only be measured or equated in terms of money. Let us explore a physical example; most companies in the USA (public-traded) are made of intangible Assets. What does this tell us? It simply means they have subjective value, and it is the same with professionalism (teaching, among others). Subjective entities, although they have extremely high value, cannot be measured in terms of money. The fact that they “intellectual” does not mean they are not successful.
Today, everyone is lured by capitalism and consumerism; most people think the only way to be termed successful is to have fancy cars or live lucrative lives. Well, that is not the case, and I tend to believe the debate on success is very personal because everyone has their way of evaluating their lives and determining w
