A Reflection Assignment Paper On Group Work (Essay Sample)

During the semester we have had group discussion, in preparation for two group class presentations I hereby give a brief description of each member of the group role and how we managed to work together as a team during the entire period. The group comprise of six members. Ian, Francisco, Alma, Tim, Quin and I.I was the supporter of the group, mostly bringing materials used in group discussion and making sure that everyone is working well in the group. My role really supported the group effectively, it aided the discussions that were present, by making sure that we are all in a position of reading from the same page and achieve the task of the day.
I effectively achieved my roles as the support person via making the work to be in progress and fixing challenges where need be. I would give a better performance in the group especially if we would merge up the roles, at times you would find we are all playing the same role like managing each other, at some instance or providing leadership it was conflicting at some point
Ian the team leader has been very instrumental part of our team, he provides coaching and mentorship for the team. He guides us on what to discuss, without getting away from the core point of our discussions. Our group wouldn't work effectively without research. Francisco role comes in the discussions, especially on topics that need further emphasis, we tasked him to research for the groups benefit from the internet, newspapers, libraries and all available relevant information needed for the discussion to be effective. Alma as the manager worked very closely with the team leader Ian. He is very detailed; he keeps Ian on the track in case the topic goes out of hand. A great pillar of our group discussion is Tim, he picks pieces of information and puts them together. I find Tim to be very analytical, how he analyses our group thoughts into one piece of information is outstanding. He is the outcome of our discussions and an onset to the presentations, since he prepares the slides that are used in the class presentations. Based on the specifications of the presentation, Tim prepares slides that match up to the occasion. Tim has knowledge on slides presentations and during the meetings, he captures our ideas on papers later he will present to us for proof read before presentations. Quin is just extraordinary, he comes up with an idea presents it to the group shouting ideas, what stands out about him is how he changes the ideas of every individual to sound big.
QUESTION 2
In the first few group discussions, we didn't have a leader we all submitted our work to Tim for compiling, Tim had volunteered to be compiling the groups final work. Over time we would find ourselves disagreeing on whom should perform a certain task. Ian would interject in the midst of the disagreements and bring order in the group. We all developed a liking for him and I suggested to the group members that we make him our group leader and everybody agreed.
In our discussions we found out that Ian had a master of our roles, when we began discussion on a topic for example, he would task Francisco to research especially when he saw that we didn't have enough resources to tackle the question. A challenge faced by our group was time, we find ourselves on different preference time of meeting. After the class we found ourselves with different tasks ahead of us, our diaries were really squeezed to accommodate each other at the same time. What really worked for the group was the aspect of responsibility especially when Ian became the group leader, everyone was up and running to his or her specific role to achieve a common objective by end of day. There were minimal or no disruptions in the course of the meeting.
