Introduction
In the United States, the family lives of same-sex couples have been subjected to a great deal of controversy and criticism for the last few years. Consequently, same-sex couples have always found it difficult to create and sustain strong family relationships due to the extreme prejudice, discrimination, and stigma associated with same-sex marriages. In 2015, the United States Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriages in all 50 states following consistency push by lesbians and gays for equal rights. The government’s response on the issue was that equality is a right, and all people are equal in the face of the law. Since then, the number of same-sex families in the country has been increasing at a higher rate than ever before. In same-sex marriages, children are either adopted or conceived through artificial insemination (Manning, Fettro & Lamidi, 2014). Researchers have conducted numerous studies on the welfare of same-sex parents and their parenting skills. This paper seeks to argue that same sex parenting is detrimental to the child through the lens of a psychological, biological and cultural perspective.
