Deaths by guns have become rampant in the United States, and it has reached a worrying point. Additionally, the violence is being fuelled by things that people are taking as normal, for example, movies. An article from the Los Angeles Times shows that gun violence in movies rated at PG-13 has increased (Horn and Zeitchik, 2013). The author of the article notes that since the late 1980s to now, gun violence has been on an increase in movies, and this has potential negative effects on children. Sooner or later the children aged 13 years and above start perceiving use of guns as a normal and advisable action, which is not.  Cases have been reported of children having had access to guns at home and eventually hurt themselves or their playmates. In an article from the New York Times, Mike Luo and Mike McIntire (2013) report of various cases where a child, for example, Tristan Underhill aged two, took a gun and himself in the head. This is among the many cases in the article where children have exposed themselves to dangers upon accessing the guns. Something needs to be done, from an increment of the age rate in violent movies to changing the gun policies and storage of the firearms.
In the Huffington Post, an article reveals that people in a few days’ time, 57 people had died by the gun, which is essentially worrying. Records from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that, in 2010, about 31,328 people died by the gun in the United States (Stein and Cherkis, 2013). As such, it is necessary for the government to take action, provide stringent laws and policies directing gun use in the United States. At home, parents who own guns need to secure them in safes to avoid their children gaining access to such weapons. There is a dire need to stop gun violence for the sake of bettering the society in the United States.
