A parent is a mature person who gives birth with another person of the opposite sex. To license is to grant someone permission to do or use something after paying an agreed amount of money. There are several reasons why people should be licensed to become parents.
To begin with, many people get children of whom they are not able or willing to take care of (Adams, 2008, p. 20). When a child has an irresponsible parent, he or she is likely to be a victim of physical, mental and emotional abuses. Therefore, licensing of people to become parents will ensure that parents take maximum care of their children. There is no parent who will want his or her child to suffer after obtaining a license.
Licensing people to become parents will also help to decrease the available pressure on natural resources such as land and water. The world is becoming a crowded place because of the high birth rate that is being experienced (Manninen, 2005, p. 12). This has led to stiff competition on the available resources. Licensing parents is a form of family planning, hence it will assist in reducing population growth, and ease the pressure on the available limited resources.
Even though parent licensing is a good thing, it is worth noting that, a right of freedom is something we have always fought for since the beginning, and trying to fix a problem should not be allowed to be a source of another problem.
